Who we are

Friction Theatre was set up in 2007 with an aim of producing New Writing in the Midlands since then we’ve veered via Pinter plays and added in School’s work – but we’re producing new writing.

Kerry Murdock

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR -  KERRY MURDOCK

Kerry’s directing credits include: an extract from The Violent Romantic Hero in Women’s Fiction at the Hampstead Theatre. My Voice(s) and Playing Life at the Edinburgh Fringe, Zak in the Box at The Crescent Theatre, Landscape at the Old Joint Stock. Most recently she has directed Talking to Terrorists for The Crescent Theatre. She is currently directing Mother Courage and her Children for Friction Theatre.

Graeme Braidwood

ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR -  GRAEME BRAIDWOOD

Graeme graduated from Middlesex University in 1991 and was a freelance stage-manager (including several productions at the National Theatre) until 2006 when a desire to pursue his directorial ambitions took over. For Friction Theatre Graeme has directed Pinter’s The Homecoming and The Lover. Other productions include GhettoTerrorismThe Sunshine BoysMidsummer Night’s Dream and Roaring Trade.

Friction Theatre has formed a good relationship with the following artists and hopes to continue working with them in the future.

PLAYWRIGHT – HELEN KELLY
Helen has been writing for children and young people for fifteen years. She wrote two series of plays for young children Kite and  What’s in the Box produced by Alan Ayckbourn’s theatre in Scarborough.  Her play for 60 European teenagers to perform – Touched – went to France and Germany with Leicestershire’s Youth Arts Theatre Company and was revived by the Stephen Joseph Youth Theatre.  FAITH was performed by student actors at Birmingham and also performed by the Mercury youth theatre, Colchester.  Helen was Chalkfoot Theatre’s writer in residence in Margate, 2002-3 where her family show Spooky Little Girl went on to tour the South East.
